About

First off, about me…

I am a writer in the truest sense: I’ve pretty much been making up stories since I could put pencil to paper, I have a degree in journalism, and I have been employed (for pay! an increasing rarity in the 21st Century) as a writer for the past 15 years. Over that time, I have seen my pay rate drop from dollars to pennies per word. I have watched while grammar and thoughtfulness went the way of the Telex machine (and, yes, I have used one of those!). I have mourned watching colorful characterizations give way to 140-character color. I try not to be bitter about my chosen profession, but some days it can be difficult. I often joke that just because somebody can pick up a knife doesn’t make one a surgeon, but somehow being able to type words into a blog suddenly makes one a writer. Of course, life isn’t fair, and I’ve come to terms with that. I’m not going to give up writing, however, because it’s one of the few things I actually do well.

Which brings me to this website…

I have long struggled to maintain my private blog when I’m actually being paid to write elsewhere. While I cannot publicize my ghost story efforts, I can gather my “collected works,” so to speak, into one website for any and all of my followers to visit and enjoy. I blog regularly about craft beer, the sustainable food movement, parenting and travel (for those last two, I do much of the former to suit my children and not nearly enough of the latter to suit me). You can see the original food and drink posts at the links above (to the right of my nameplate). These posts are also incorporated into this website under Eat, Drink, Blog. Travel posts are divided between general travel and my hopes to spend a couple years traveling around the world with my son.

There are also posts referencing kink/BDSM, plus sex and sexuality that are, if not NC-17, certainly a strong “R” in rating nature. I do mention this in posts that are NSFW for those who don’t want to read them. If you do continue past the warning, it is assumed that you have consented to read adult material and that you are at least 18 years of age. There is no porn in this blog, but I do not assume responsibility for third party content, even if I link to it. Oh, and I curse like a sailor, but I don’t consider that worthy of note. Your kid listens to rap worse than my potty mouth.

Hopefully you will be both entertained and learn a bit about me, my musings, or – eventually – buy my book(s). I recently completed my first novel and am half way through a second. I am attempting to find an agent because – old school that I am – I would really like to feel my book in print edition, and I suspect that can no longer be accomplished without a reputable agent helping navigate the writer much as Virgil did Dante. I’ve already navigated hell pretty much on my own, but I still need a way through Purgatory.

Feel free to join me on my journey. You are welcome here.

  1. I’am very happy about your book. Have a good luck, crossing fingers, as we say in Italy. And don’t forget: when you want to learn more about mediterranean diet…or eating, you know how to do. Open door in my home. Ciao. Stefano Ercoli.

  2. Your website looks awesome! Happy to get to know you. Waiting for your journey with your son…may be a possibility for me someday.

    • OMG. Debra, you brought a tear to my eye! This has been a VERY scary effort for me (ha ha, being versatile, that is!). I really appreciate you putting me up for this award. It means so so so much that you would do that! Yea! My first award. 🙂

  3. Oops. Sorry, I see that I just recently presented you with one. I will gladly present you with another, since I have been nominated again. Just let me know. 🙂
